Yesterday’s post with the incredibly inspirational journalist and speaker Mariana Atencio resonated deeply with me. During our conversation, she referred to a Garth Brooks song and talked about the importance of leaving the fire’s perimeter, where you feel safe, and stepping inside the fire, where the discomfort is real. It’s in that space of discomfort that resilience grows.
It’s sound advice for anyone deferring a complicated conversation because of the vulnerability that comes with the discomfort. There’s no denying it––discomfort sucks. Whatever the struggle, stepping inside the fire will yield profound growth that outweighs any temporary pain. And through pain, purpose is often revealed.
