“???? ?? ??? ???????? ??? ??? ??? ??? ?????.”– Martin Luther King, Jr.
And boy, did those stars shine brightly from the stage of Carnegie Hall this week.
Ukraine’s Shchedryk Children Choir performed the century-old, iconic, and captivating “Carol of the Bells” this week in New York City, going from practices in a dark bomb shelter to performance under the bright lights of one of the grandest stages on earth.
First performed in America 100 years ago – when Ukrainians were again fighting for their freedom – the Ukrainian-composed holiday carol brought many an audience member to tears. Not only because of its haunting beauty but because of what it represented to those from whom the notes eloquently flowed – optimism, faith, and an enduring belief that when hope prevails, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. ?
