If you watched the US take on Iran yesterday at the World Cup, you were probably on the edge of your seat (like me) the entire second half and through every second of overtime. My blood pressure was through the roof, and I have even less hair on my head right now.
It was a thrill to watch, and the camaraderie worldwide was on full display.
? Competition, high expectations, injuries, and all the other challenges that accompany sports at a top level are issues athletes must face every time they step onto the biggest fields in the world. Add to that the global tension felt across the globe this year. It’s remarkable to watch a team maintain their composure and focus on their end goal despite the pressure they face under a global spotlight.
Pressure can burst a pipe or make a diamond. How we handle it determines whether we break or stand when all eyes are upon us, when critical decisions lie in our hands, when performance matters most. Today, this young US team proved they could handle the pressure and I can’t wait to cheer them on this Saturday. ?
