Is Music the Access to Mental Health Mastery?

It was for me!

During the pandemic, I faced challenges I had never seen before. The entire planet Earth faced unprecedented challenges.

I had three children at home doing pandemic schooling, I was working from home, my profession and industry were brought to a screeching halt, and there were countless other stressors.

I began to lose sleep, eat erratically, and act in unrecognizable ways with my family. Something needed to be done.

A phone call with keynote speaker Frank King changed all of that. Frank is a nationally recognized expert in Mental Health issues.

He listened to my complaints, frustrations, and fears. He heard I was off balance; structure had disappeared and I was surviving the moment.

Frank suggested I develop a routine, get back to basics, and rekindle an activity that I once loved but had given up lately.

Guitar! Music! I took his suggestion because the alternatives were much worse. I started virtual guitar classes with my former teacher and dedicated time each day to practice.

Gradually, I pulled out of the rut I was in. The tide turned at home with virtual schooling, as well, and I was able to explore new ways of doing business.

The moment I acknowledged that my mental health needed attention and I acted; things began to transform.

May 2022 Mental Health Awareness month’s theme is “Back to Basics.”
