Have you ever met someone so different from you that you thought it would be impossible to find any common ground?
People find plenty to disagree upon, whether it’s values or beliefs, self-interests or viewpoints. Finding common ground with different-minded individuals can feel like it’s more work than it’s worth. Or is it?
Instead of focusing on the things that set you apart, try looking for the similarities – no matter how small – that bring you together. You may realize that the gap between you isn’t that big.
? Recognize the similarities you share with others instead of just the differences.
? You don’t have to respect what an adversary says but respect their right to say it.
? Listen more. Instead of talking about someone, at someone, or past someone, talk with someone.
? Remember that ignorance breeds fear, fear breeds hatred, and hatred breeds destruction.
Have you found common ground and built a relationship with someone you never thought you would?
