Adam Aleksic, widely known as the “Etymology Nerd,” is a linguist, author, and digital creator who explores the origins and evolution of language. Raised in Albany, New York, he developed a fascination with word history as a teenager and went on to study linguistics at Harvard University, where he founded the Harvard Undergraduate Linguistics Society. After graduating in 2023, he built a following of more than a million across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Substack with engaging videos that unpack everything from slang to the impact of algorithms on language. In 2025, he published his first book, “Algospeak: How Social Media Is Transforming the Future of Language,” which was praised for its witty and insightful take on how digital platforms shape communication. Based in Manhattan, Aleksic continues to lecture, write for outlets like The Washington Post, and share his passion for language with global audiences.
