Dr. Fei-Fei Li is the godmother of artificial intelligence. As the creator of ImageNet, the database that taught computers to “see,” she laid the groundwork for modern AI marvels such as Google Lens, DALL-E, self-driving cars, and facial recognition. In her current role as co-founder and CEO of World Labs, she’s building the foundation for AI’s next major breakthrough—Large World Models (LWMs) that can understand and interact with the physical world. A champion for AI that is safe and inclusive, Dr. Fei-Fei Li is also the founding co-director of Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute (HAI) and the founder of AI4ALL.
“If we want to advance AI beyond its current capabilities, we want more than AI that can see and talk. We want AI that can do.”
Delivering depth and breadth on both the technical and human aspects of the technology, Dr. Li leaves audiences awestruck, informed, and empowered to leverage AI in their unique industries. Alongside mind-blowing presentations on the latest research, she discusses AI’s impact on society and the future of work, and offers practical applications in business, healthcare, and more. She is vocal about the risks of developing such powerful technology and the obligation we have to wield it responsibly and ethically.
Her critically acclaimed memoir, The Worlds I See, is a coming-of-age story of overcoming adversity, documenting Li’s journey from China’s middle class to American poverty to her position at the forefront of AI today. The book is at once a deeply moving immigrant tale and an inside look at the rise of AI from one of its most prominent creators. It was named a Financial Times Best Book of 2023 and one of Barack Obama’s recommended books on AI.
Dr. Fei-Fei Li is the inaugural Sequoia Professor in the computer science department at Stanford University and served as director of the Stanford AI Lab for five years. During a sabbatical from the University, she worked as Vice President and Chief Scientist of AI/ML at Google Cloud. The founder of AI4ALL, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to AI education and research to underrepresented groups, Li is also a leading advocate for diversity in STEM seeking to combat the harmful unconscious bias built into AI models developed by homogenous teams.
Acknowledging the potential harm of AI in the wrong hands, Dr. Li has lent her expertise to policymakers nationally and locally to inform proper governance. She has testified before Congress, served as a member of the California Future of Work Commissioner under Gavin Newsom, and contributed to White House technology policy as a member of the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource Task Force.
Dr. Fei-Fei Li has published more than 300 scientific papers in industry-leading journals such as Nature, PNAS, Journal of Neuroscience, New England Journal of Medicine, among others. Work from her lab has been featured in numerous general audience publications including New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Science, Wired, Financial Times, and more. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Among Dr. Li’s many awards are the Intel Lifetime Achievement Award, the Thomas Huang Memorial Prize, the National Geographic Society Further Award, and the NVIDIA Pioneer in AI Award. She was named a TIME100 in AI, one of ELLE’s Women in Tech, a Good Housekeeping Awesome Women awardee, a Foreign Policy Global Thinker, and one of the Carnegie Foundation’s “Great Immigrants: The Pride of America,” an honor previously bestowed to great minds such as Albert Einstein, Yo-Yo Ma, and Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
The AI of today can see, speak, and create in the digital space. The AI of tomorrow will be able to understand and interact with the 3D world—just as you can. Renowned AI visionary Dr. Fei-Fei Li is taking us there. In this keynote that feels like a glimpse into a crystal ball, Dr. Li shares the latest research from her lab and others that are building the foundation for AI-powered spatial intelligence known as Large World Models (LWMs). More than image recognition and language understanding, spatial intelligence is a complex process linking perception with action that allows humans to assess the many interconnected and nuanced elements of a situation nearly simultaneously and know exactly what needs to be done next. With practical applications as varied as healthcare, manufacturing, engineering, robotics, game design, filmmaking, and more, this developing technology will change the way work is done in almost every industry.
Artificial intelligence is an incredibly powerful technology, but ultimately, it is morally neutral. Whether it brings humanity into a new era of prosperity or the end of civilization as we know it is completely in the hands of the people using it. In this keynote, leading AI pioneer Dr. Fei-Fei Li breaks through the noise of utopias and dystopias from both sides of the spectrum and leaves audiences with a message rooted in reality: it is our collective responsibility to ensure AI benefits humanity. Weaving together insights on ethics, governance, and societal impacts, this presentation is an urgent call to shape the course of artificial intelligence with integrity and purpose.
Dr. Fei-Fei Li is renowned for her incredible contributions to the field of AI. But behind her grand successes is a powerful story of overcoming adversity and triumph against all odds. Based on her critically acclaimed memoir, The Worlds I See, this keynote tells the story of Dr. Li’s journey from China’s middle class to American poverty to her position at the forefront of AI today, and her lifelong passion for science that accompanied her every step of the way. Touching on the struggles of being an immigrant in America, the hurdles involved in breaking into a male-dominated field, the work that still remains to diversify STEM, and ending on a hopeful note, Dr. Li’s story is touching and deeply human.
