Biography

After his co-workers entered him in an industry talent competition in which he took first prize, Gordie Brown caught the entertainment bug. Shortly afterward, Gordie Brown pulled together $3,000, jumped in his car and headed south from Canada towards Las Vegas. His goal: to break into the big time and work with fellow Canadians Paul Anka and Rich Little. The gamble paid off. In less than two years, Gordie Brown was opened for both Paul and Rich. Gordie Brown has gone on to work with Jay Leno, Louie Anderson, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Barry Manilow, The Righteous Brothers, Jerry Seinfeld, and many others.

A Montreal native, Gordie Brown began his stint in the limelight as a cartoonist for the Ottawa Sunday Herald before going into show business. A talented caricature artist, Gordie Brown sometimes thinks up dialogue for his impressions while working on a celebrity sketch. His celebrity caricatures have won much praise, and many have been presented to celebrities, including Bob Hope and Rich Little.

Gordie Brown had his national television debut on A&E’s Evening at the Improv. After co-hosting NBC’s Friday Night Videos, Gordie Brown later wrote and sang the theme song for the Emmy-award winning animated series Life with Louie. Gordie Brown has made numerous appearances on Hollywood Squares, and starred as Mr. Jones on PAX TV’s Twice in a Lifetime.

Gordie Brown is not the typical impressionist. While many impressionists rely on jokes made famous by the person they are doing, or by facial impressions or significant musical numbers pertaining to a certain celebrity, Gordie Brown does all that and more, including creating his own jokes to go with the character. He is known as a brilliant writer of witty dialogue and song parodies, and combines his comedic touch with a gift for mimicking voices to create his unique and very entertaining show. Gordie Brown’s Louis Armstrong impression is recognized as one of the best.

Quickly moving from character to character, Gordie Brown is a master impressionist. Within 20 minutes, audiences may hear Ossie Osborn, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Ted Koppel of Night Line, and a drunk Billy Joel with Elton John.

One segment of Gordie Brown’s show that always draws laughter is his Elvis impression. Instead of tossing scarves to the audience as the King did, Gordie Brown rips three feet of toilet paper off a roll, places it around his neck to make a two-ply scarf, and then snaps off squares of tissue to hand to fans, all the while singing “My Way.”

Gordie Brown’s awards include: Best Comedian & Best Entertainer 2003, Nevada magazine; Best Casino Show 2003, Reno Gazette Journal; Entertainer of the Year 2002, Sacramento.com; Best Casino Show 2002, Reno Gazette Journal; and Best New Show & Best New Entertainer 2002, Nevada magazine. Gordie Brown continues to perform on stage with more than 100 shows a year, for such corporations as Ford, AT&T, PepsiCo, and Motorola.
