Breaking Barriers ?‍♀️♀️Center Stage: Christine Brennan

At The Keynote Curators, we’re constantly curating fresh and exciting keynote speakers with ideas worth sharing. Today’s spotlight is on Christine Brennan, award-winning journalist, sports columnist, television sports analyst, and bestselling author.

“??? ???? ?? ??? ?? ?? ?? ??.” –– Billie Jean King on Title IX

Christine Brennan is no stranger to breaking barriers on a predominantly male playing field.

?‍? She’s been a leading voice on some of the most controversial and important issues in sports over the past four decades, paving the way for female sports journalists as an award-winning national sports columnist for USA Today, commentator for CNN, ABC News, PBS NewsHour and NPR, bestselling author, and nationally known speaker. She’s also an unwavering advocate of Title IX – which Nixon signed into law in 1972, forever changing the landscape for girls and women in sports – describing it as “the most important law in our country over the last 50 years.”

? Christine has been a trailblazer for women: the first woman sportswriter at The Miami Herald in 1981; the first woman to cover Washington’s NFL team as a staff writer at The Washington Post in 1985; and the first president of the Association for Women in Sports Media (AWSM). She also started a scholarship-internship program that’s supported more than 175 female students over the past two decades.

? Never afraid to take a stand on an issue in sports, she was named one of the country’s top 10 sports columnists three times by the Associated Press Sports Editors and was the winner of the prestigious Red Smith Award in 2020 for her “major contributions to sports journalism.”

? In addition to her groundbreaking career as a female sports columnist, Christine has authored seven books, including the bestselling Inside Edge, which offers an intimate look into the complicated and beautiful world of professional figure skating. Sports Illustrated named it one of the top 100 sports books of all time.

Christine easily captures audiences’ attention through masterful storytelling, offering narratives that have helped define her career and predictions for what’s next for women’s sports, and sharing essential life lessons that young girls learn from participation in sports.
