Bill Nye, scientist, engineer, comedian, author, and inventor, is a man with a mission: to help foster a scientifically literate society and to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work. Nye’s fascination with how things work led him to Cornell University and a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he headed for Seattle and worked as an engineer at Boeing. His night job became a comedy writer and performer on Seattle’s home-grown ensemble comedy show “Almost Live.” This is where Bill Nye the Science Guy was born. The show appeared before Saturday Night Live and later on Comedy Central, originating at KING-TV, Seattle’s NBC affiliate. With fellow KING-TV alumni Jim McKenna and Erren Gottlieb, Nye made a number of award winning shows, including the show he became so well known for, Bill Nye the Science Guy. The Science Guy show ran on weekends at first and then later on PBS five nights a week and in syndication on weekends. While working on the Science Guy show, Nye won seven national Emmy Awards for writing, performing, and producing. The show won 19 Emmys in five years. In between creating the shows, he wrote children’s books about science.
Nye’s latest venture, Bill Nye Saves the World will debut on Netflix this April 2017. In the last two years Nye has released two best-selling books, Undeniable – Evolution and the Science of Creation, and Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World, where he takes on subjects such as evolution and climate change respectively. When Nye isn’t acting, making TV and film appearances or writing, he is working as a scientist. In the early 2000s, he helped develop sundials that were used in the Mars Exploration Rover missions. Nye is the CEO of the Planetary Society, a non-profit dedicated to the advancement of space science and exploration.

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on Pinterest Popular scientist and personality Bill Nye shares in his comet speech his predictions for how space will change once the Rosetta comet mission ends. While space is an ongoing plethora of mystery to many of us, Philae's landing on the Rosetta comet will revolutionize the universe as we know it.
Philae, the name given to the probe that will land onto the Rosetta comet, will achieve a status of greatness as a 10 year long mission finally comes to an end. The meeting of Philae and Rosetta will no doubt lead to a series of unimaginable breakthroughs and adventures. While unearthing new aspects of the universe are key, according to Nye adventures are the most important part of the process because they unlock excitement. As Nye puts it so elegantly,"We'll make discoveries that nobody's imagined yet."
Bill Nye's Space Exploration Talk Discusses Possible Life on Europa
Vasiliki Marapas — August 1, 2014 — Keynote Trends

In his space exploration talk, Bill Nye discusses the possibility of discovering life on Europa.
A moon of Jupiter, Europa was formerly considered to be an ill-advised, expensive mission that would require drilling through 50km of ice to reach the seawater beneath (that's kept liquid thanks to Europa's 85-hour orbital period with Jupiter). However, with its icy crust and gravitational orbit, Europa propels fountains of water into space. Nye explains that instead of the aforementioned expensive drilling technique, "you would build a much more modest spacecraft that would have to go the extraordinary distance out to Jupiter and get an orbit out there around Europa, but, you would have it fly through the geysers [...And it would be] like looking at bugs on the windshield."
The mission, if it were to be conceived, would cost $2 billion dollars over the course of ten years, a figure which Nye likens to "barely the cup of coffee per taxpayer once." Not a bad price to pay for a collective scientific discovery ofn life outside of Earth, no?
Bill Nye's Creationism in Education Speech Discourages Religion in Schools

Bill Nye discusses why religion doesn't belong in schools in this creationism in education speech. Nye talks about meeting people who don't believe in evolution and why that baffles him. He says that creationism needlessly complicates people's lives.
In this speech, Bill Nye encourages parents not to teach their kids about creationism. He explains that the world needs minds with a proper scientific understanding of the world and creationism has no part in that, because there is no proof of a creator.
Nye talks about how the denial of evolution is a huge problem in America. He explains that evolution is the basis of all biology and believing in it is key to having a correct understanding of life science. Nye also predicts that in a few decades creationism will almost be a thing of the past because there's nothing to support it.

This future education keynote by Bill Nye has very reasonable predictions for the classrooms of the future. Instead of bringing up far out ideas which include robot servants, Bill Nye predicts better synergy and collaboration methods as a result of access to already available technology.
Bill Nye proposes that instead of having text books, students will have tablets that will have access to all human information as a result of the Internet. They will use the tablets in order to gain valuable research, which will work in collaboration with hands-on learning right in the classroom.
As explained in Bill's future education keynote, this methodology will lead to breakthroughs in human intelligence.

This future predictions keynote by Bill Nye makes some pretty reasonable predictions for upcoming city life.
Most of his predictions circle around innovation in bicycling. For instance, he believes that efficient bike roadways will be built in order to offer an alternative to automobiles. He believes these bike arteries will be air tight as to defend against headwinds and will propel tailwinds in either direction. As he explains, it would be much cheaper and better on the environment to travel by this method. These roadways would also be a better long term investment.
Bill Nye's future predictions keynote also makes interesting predictions of convenient showers to account for heat, laundry services that clean your clothing when you get to work, and less commuting due to better mobile communication devices.
Bill Nye Discusses Moving Forward in this Exploration Keynote
Romina S. Cortellucci — August 6, 2012 — Keynote Trends

The popular American science educator Bill Nye the Science Guy discusses importance of having an insatiable curiosity in this exploration keynote. According to Nye, the prevention of exploration demonstrates laziness and this problematic attitude could prevent the development of humans. Nye believes by continuing space exploration there will be a “trickle-up” effect with a country’s economy. The reason behind this is because when well-educated people are apparent in society there is a rise in the level of intellectual achievement for everyone.
Plus, the more discoveries made by the human species expands the amount the possibilities for what will be discovered. This concept may be troubling for some, Nye believes it is actually very exciting specifically for scientists who are inspired by the fact that there will always be something to find.

Appealing to those who remember Bill Nye from Disney's 'Bill Nye the Science Guy,' this speech is the perfect balance of nostalgia and important information concerning children's education in society today.
In his brief address, Bill Nye discusses how education should run parallel to comedy. He argues that the key to effective teaching today is to get the student to choose to embrace science lessons. He believes that challenging a student to come up with the answer is more rewarding for the student, and more likely to stick in his or her mind.
As someone with a career dedicated to improving the rates of 'scientific literacy' in America, Bill Nye argues that teaching becomes much easier and more productive once the student has decided that he or she wants to participate.
