Book Inge Auerbacher through The Keynote Curators
Biography
Inge Auerbacher is a Holocaust survivor, author, chemist, and inspirational speaker whose life story has become a powerful testimony to survival, remembrance, and the importance of standing against hatred and intolerance.
Born in Kippenheim, Germany, in 1934, Auerbacher was the only child of Berthold and Regina Auerbacher. Her early childhood was profoundly disrupted by the rise of Nazi persecution. At the age of seven, she and her parents were deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in Czechoslovakia, where they remained for nearly three years.
Auerbacher was among the small number of children who survived Theresienstadt. She and her parents were liberated in May 1945 and immigrated to the United States the following year. After arriving in America, she faced serious health complications related to tuberculosis and spent extended periods confined to bed before eventually recovering.
Despite losing years of formal schooling, Auerbacher pursued her education and built a 38-year career as a chemist working in medical research and clinical settings.
She later became an author and internationally recognized speaker, sharing her experiences with students, universities, civic organizations, governments, and audiences around the world. Her work focuses not only on preserving the memory of the Holocaust, but also on teaching future generations about the consequences of antisemitism, prejudice, hatred, indifference, and injustice.
Auerbacher has written several books, including I Am a Star: Child of the Holocaust, and has received numerous honors for her educational and humanitarian work. She has addressed major institutions including the German Bundestag and has devoted much of her life to encouraging understanding, reconciliation, compassion, and peace.
At the heart of her message is a simple but enduring belief: the past must never be forgotten, and every generation has a responsibility to speak out against hatred and protect the dignity of others.
