Kelsey Pfendler

Kelsey Pfendler is a record-breaking ocean rower, professional river guide, and endurance athlete whose life has been shaped by adventure, resilience, and a deep connection to the water. She began working as a professional raft guide at 18 and has spent years guiding multi-day expeditions on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. She also competed with the USA Women’s Open Raft Race Team and represented the United States at the 2022 World Rafting Championships in Bosnia.

In 2024, Kelsey Pfendler served as skipper of Hericane Rowing, an all-women four-person team competing in the World’s Toughest Row – Pacific. After two years of preparation, the team rowed from Monterey, California, to Kauai, Hawaii, completing the crossing in 40 days, 22 hours, and 14 minutes despite capsizing, equipment failures, powerful waves, and difficult currents. The experience inspired Pfendler to return to the Pacific and attempt an even greater challenge: rowing more than 2,400 miles from California to Hawaii completely solo and unsupported.

In July 2026, Kelsey Pfendler completed that solo crossing in 43 days, 17 hours, and 55 minutes, becoming the first American woman and youngest person to row solo from California to Hawaii while also setting the overall speed record for the route. Her experiences at sea and on some of the world’s most demanding rivers shape her speaking on perseverance, leadership, teamwork, preparation, problem-solving, and pushing beyond perceived limits. Through her keynotes, she translates lessons from extreme environments into practical inspiration for people and teams facing challenges of their own.
