Light Watkins’ journey into meditation began far from its usual paths. Raised in the American Bible Belt, he spent his early years immersed in a world far removed from mindfulness practices. After career-hopping through advertising, fashion, and yoga, a chance encounter with his meditation teacher in Los Angeles in 2003 changed everything. Feeling called to teach, Light Watkins apprenticed for several years before traveling to India to complete his formal training.
Since 2007, Light Watkins has dedicated his life to helping others discover inner peace and happiness. His accessible teachings have reached thousands in person, ranging from celebrities to inner-city youth to retirees, and millions more through his books, online courses, and inspirational talks.
In 2014, Light Watkins founded The Shine Movement, a global initiative aimed at fostering community and well-being through meditation and acts of kindness. His passion for spreading happiness and connection has made him a sought-after speaker and leader in the wellness space.
With every word, course, and meditation, Light Watkins empowers people to tap into the happiness that lies within, proving that mindfulness is not only for the few but for anyone ready to transform their life.
In order to be an effective leader of a company, a team, a community, or even a household, you have to be able to quickly read and interpret a variety of external cues.
But more importantly, you must be proficient at tuning in to your internal wisdom, because being an effective leader requires blazing a unique path—one that aligns with your purpose, goals, and mission. As Joseph Campbell wisely noted, “If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it's not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take.”
Even when leaders want to lead with strength, courage, and creativity, the margin for error is so thin that it’s tempting to play it safe, to hide behind statistics, and double-down on the status quo. This leads to stagnation, a loss of enthusiasm, turnover, and the unraveling of company culture.
We all want to feel a greater sense of purpose and a larger mission. And it’s the leader’s job to not just provide that direction, but to embody it, from the inside-out. And in doing so, you model it for others, from the head of the organization on down.
In this talk, Light will show you how to identify your purpose, why staying attuned to your internal guidance makes for excellent business decisions, how to know you’re tapping into authentic leadership, the most effective way to adapt to changing times, the importance of slowing down in order to speed up, and much more.
Your team will come away from this talk with a renewed sense of individual purpose along with tools for optimizing their contribution to both their individual mission as well as the shared mission of the company.

Without a purpose, it’s hard to stay motivated to do much at all. The bad news: working purely for money is not enough of an incentive to keep people engaged, creative, and productive. They must have a greater sense of purpose.
The good news: it’s not as hard as it seems to find your purpose, and it doesn’t have to involve running off and joining the circus. You can find purpose right where you are, if you know where to look for it.
This talk is a big crowd pleaser as Light reverses the paradigm on the purpose conversation. Instead of looking to the future for hints of your purpose, Light teaches you to find it in what you’re already doing.

Here are the 3 reasons why your mind is NOT too busy for meditation.
Let’s face it, not everybody is a fan of meditation. But typically, it’s because they don’t think they are good at it. They feel that their mind is too busy or their body is too antsy to meditate. It’s a legitimate thought, but it’s not accurate.
Light will go into detail about the meditating mind and how most of what the attendees are experiencing in meditation is normal. Once they hear this, and understand the reasons why, they will reconsider everything they thought they knew about meditation.
Light will then use humor and science to reiterate the real-world, kitchen-table reasons why daily meditation should not be treated as an optional activity, and he will show attendees how to crack the “cheat code” to meditation and begin enjoying the practice with ease.
During this workshop, attendees will:
- Learn what it means to meditate with ease, as most people work too hard to meditate
- Receive tangible, accessible instructions for unlocking the enjoyment in meditation
- Have action steps for replicating the experience on their own, whether at home or work
- Begin establishing a foundation for the power of daily meditation
